The Commodores arrived at Vanderbilt Stadium early Saturday morning prepared to face South Carolina.
Rainy conditions set the scene during warmups.
The Commodores took the field for the third time this season. Freshman quarterback Mike Wright and junior linebacker Luke Blanton carried the anchor into the stadium.
Mr. Commodore wore a mask in the stands as he anchored down and stepped up cheering on the Dores.
An early sack from captain Dayo Odeyingbo forced the Gamecocks to punt on their first drive of the game.
The Commodores held the Gamecocks to just three points in the first quarter, and trailed 10-0 at halftime. Multiple sacks from the defense created strong momentum for the Commodores.
In the third quarter, freshman quarterback Ken Seals connected with junior wide receiver Cam Johnson, who tallied his first touchdown on the season.
The Commodores were unable to mount a second-half comeback and fell to the Gamecocks, 41-7. Vanderbilt is back in action at Missouri for a 6:30 p.m. kick on SEC Network.
